The Fawn by Susan Griscom Release Day Blitz

The writing of The Fawn has been a bittersweet journey. This is a story very close to my heart and a story suffered by many women around the world. It's not a new story. It is one that has been told time and time again by many different people in many different ways and with many different experiences, but with the same old problem. Hopefully through my love of my characters and emotions I've made it an interesting one. I wrote the first twenty pages of this story back in 2008 shortly after finishing the first draft of Whisper Cape. Although the story of The Fawn is completely fiction, it does represent a time in my life when I was insecure and my self-esteem was at an all time low, sometime back in my late thirties early forties. Things changed, circumstances changed, and I was able to find my own self worth. One thing similar to The Fawn is that I didn't do it alone. The people in my life had a huge influence on me, friends mostly. And my knight who helped me realize my own self-worth time and time again. Just as Jackson is there for Lena, my knight was there for me. That is where the similarities end. But the emotion is strong in this story and I hope I've been able to portray it well enough to be appreciated. Lena's journey is very different from my own, yet, holds so much weight in my heart.

No more tears, I ordered myself. Itâ€™s over. Was he dead? I hoped he was dead. I had to have killed him. Well, that person was gone and I didnâ€™t want to be weak anymore. I lifted my glasses, studied my eye again, and thought of my motherâ€”sheâ€™d been weak, I remembered. The vision of my stepfather beating my mother to death invaded my mind. I was nine at the time, and sat cowering in the corner, praying he wouldnâ€™t come at me when heâ€™d finished with her. My Ward, Daniel, put the horse in the barn, untacked him, closed the barn door, and made his way to the house. It dawned on us that the farmstead seemed unusual. The house was dark. The Portal Chronicles Soundtrack Single!

About a year ago, when Imogen Rose, author of the cult bestselling series, the Portal Chronicles, was surfing YouTube she stumbled upon a song, “If We Fall” by SHE SAID SAVE ME, and instantly fell in love with both the lyrics and the male vocal. My Review:
Adelaide is working at the morgue. Her life changes completly when she discover that she have the ability to see the past and sometimes the future. Just by touching a corpse or someone will sometimes trigger a vision. That is not necessarily a gift as the visions are not always great. She is afraid to talk to anybody about these visions because she thinks that they will think she is crazy.

With all that stress, the best remedy for her is always coffee. She then met Killian the awesome guy working at the coffee place near home. At first, she didn't like him he had his way of upsetting her but then he seems to be fascinated by her. Who is that guy really? Is he good or bad? Will she tells him her secret?

Back at work, when many girls her age died in similar circumstances and arrived at the morgue, by her vision, Adelaide discover that there is a serial killer out there targetting girls like her. She has to talk to someone about that but who? The police? Her boss? Her best friend? Who is that killer?

All answers will be found in that wonderful story.

My opinion:
First of all, thank you so much Laura for allowing me to read your story before it comes out. It was very refreshing. It a short story but what a story!!! I couldn't put it down and I read it in one day.

There is a lot of suspense in that book and I couldn't figure out what would happen next. I was really happy to learn that there will be other books to the series. I feel in love with the characters, I can't wait to get into episode 2 and see what's in store for Adelaide.

Excerpt
Getting a call to come into work at three in the morning is not a new thing for me. I often expect it.

But I didn’t expect this.

“This better be important, Jim, if I’m giving up my warm bed for this.”

“It is Addy. I can assure you.”

“Ugh! Why are you so perky this time of morning!”

“I’m a vampire. I sleep during the day.” I shoot ice missiles at my unnaturally perky assistant as he strolls over the fridge to retrieve the reason I was called down here. In less than a minute he has the body bag on a gurney and wheeled in front of me and sliding onto the metal slab.

“It still gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.”

I glance at him in confusion and anticipation and start to unzip the bag.

The face that greets me is not what I was expecting. I jump back with a shriek. Normally I am fine around dead bodies, being a morgue technician and studying forensic science, but nothing I have seen previously prepares me for this.

Lying on the slab in front of me pale and cold is a face more familiar to me than anyone else’s. It’s my face.

Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasnâ€™t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. Sean jogged over with the bat and held it out for me, grinning. â€œPick your pitcher, Allie-O.â€ The smirk on Ethan's face was a challenge, and I couldn't resist. â€œEthan has the ball, he can pitch to me.â€ He made a big show of stretching and winding up before he finally tossed the ball at me. I smacked the ball over the pool house, and Sean started shouting and cheering, making me smile. Ethan shook his head, but he was smiling. He clearly thought I would be an easy out. I made it all the way to the final round, kicking Sean and Jeff out of the game. I'd played softball and run track all through school to pad my transcripts. â€œYou gonna let her win, E?â€ Jeff called, winking at me from the picnic table where he sat drinking a beer. Ethan chuckled, showing off those damn dimples. He looked down at the ball in his hands and back up at me with a grin. â€œIf I do, will you let me take you out?â€ I snorted, trying to look braver than I felt. â€œNot a chance.â€ â€œWait a sec. I like this. Let's make a wager,â€ he said. The guys were all hooting and hollering at me, my face was no doubt crimson. â€œWhat do I get if I win?â€ I bit my lip, feeling all their eyes on me. â€œI'm thinking, hang on,â€ He held up his finger, his brow furrowed in thought. His eyes widened with excitement, and I knew I would regret whatever he had to say. â€œIf I win, I get a kiss.â€ If it was possible, my cheeks grew even redder. They were all laughing and making cat calls now. â€œAnd, if I win?â€ I looked up at his face. He looked at me for a second, considering. â€œIf you win, I won't ever ask you out again.â€ This earned a chorus of â€œYeah, rightâ€ and â€œNo wayâ€ from the guys. My mouth fell open, I had not been expecting that, but his face was sober. The laughing around us fell away for a second, and I could only stare at him feeling the color drain from my face. His expression remained solemn, and he met my gaze head on. I nodded stiffly, and swallowed. â€œAll right.â€ His grin came back in full force. â€œOh, and Al?â€ I raised my eyebrows at him. â€œI won't lose.â€
