Book Description: Secret Seekers Society and the Beast of Bladenboro follows the young protagonists Hunter Glenn, and Elly Ann through an adventure ripe with adversity, paranormal monsters, secret societies, and most haunting of all, a life without their parents. The book follows both, the sibling’s emotional struggle from their parent’s sudden loss, as well as their physical journey into a new and strange “home”, an ancient and creepy mansion known only as the Belmonte Estate. It is here where they first learn of their new guardian, an eccentric old man named Professor Clandestine and the rest of the mansion's caretakers. Tossed into their bedroom, and locked away under the pretense of “safety concerns” it does not take long for the children to hatch an escape plan. Follow the children as they slowly unravel the secrets of their parent’s true identities, the origin of the strange Mansion, and their inheritance into an ancient secret society of monster hunters known as Seekers. My Description: Hunter and Elly unfortunately lost both of their parents in an accident. They now have to leave for Belmonte Estate a big mansion in middle of nowhere where they will meet their Godfather Professor Clandestine. Once they arrive there, they see a lot of strange things in the mansion and their new life isn't like they would like it to be. All day long their have to stay in their room which is locked up. It's for their security but they don't know from what or who they must be protected. One day, they sneek out of their room and discover the Beast of Bladenboro that is not suppose to exist. Monsters are suppose to only exist in books or movies. And the Beast of Bladenboro isn't the only strange thing that they will meet. Then a lot of new people move in the mansion and they finally make some friends. They will then learn secrets about their true parents identity. They learn that they were a part of a secret society and that now it is the turn of Hunter and Elly to decide if they want to join the society. They also are more than happy to see their uncle at the mansion. With him, they feel more comfortable but their happiness will be of short time when their uncle is seriously injured by the Beast. They will then, with the help of their friends take things in hands. Will they be able to capture the beast? Will somebody get hurt along the way? What will Hunter and Elly decide for their future? My opinion: First of all, thanks to the author, Joe Hickey to allowing me to review his book. I really liked the story which I found very original. Nothing like I have read so far. I really liked the characters Hunter, Elly, Uncle Joe, Margot, well most of them. At first it was not necessarily a page turner to me but at a certain point in the story I couldn't stop. I really wanted to know what would happen to the children. It's also easy to read for a French first language person like me. I think that this story can reach teenagers as well as adults. I will surely read the next book. I recommend this. Well done Mr. Hickey. The Author: Joe lives in Saginaw, Michigan where he has a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing through Saginaw Valley State University. Joe has written and is currently self publishing his first novel entitled The Deity Chronicles: Origins. His recent release, The Secret Seekers Society and the Beast of Bladenboro was released 12/31/12 and had already been a huge success (at least in his eyes lol). He also dabbles in literary short fiction, and poetry. (Source: Goodreads) | Author: J.L. Hickey Edition: Self published Number of pages: Ebook My note: |
